However, just squeaking into the top 10 most admired males is Democratic President Bill Clinton.

Last year may go down as the best year yet for female CEOs of large companies, but those corporate chiefs want to make it clear their success has nothing to do with chromosomes.

“Good leadership is about the person and has little to do with gender,” says Carol Meyrowitz, 55, CEO of retailer TJX Cos., whose stock soared 79 percent in 2009. “Good leadership and good performance [are] not about any one thing, but a host of factors and circumstances.”

Still, the year after Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin fell just short of becoming the first female president or vice president, and heading into 2010, when women will begin outnumbering men in the work force, stocks of the 13 Fortune 500 companies that had a woman at the helm for all of 2009 were up an average 50 percent.

That’s a significant outperformance. The S&P 500 is up 25 percent.

Others with an up year:

• Brenda Barnes, 56, of Downers Grove-based Sara Lee, up 27 percent.

• Andrea Jung, 51, has been at Avon Products a decade, making her the longest-tenured of the 15. Avon stock rose 34 percent in 2009.

• Ellen Kullman, 53, has had an impressive debut since taking over at DuPont on Jan. 1, 2009. DuPont stock is up 34 percent.

• Carol Bartz, 61, the former Autodesk CEO who took over at Yahoo two weeks into 2009 for co-founder Jerry Yang, also ended the year with a gain — Yahoo is up 38 percent since Jan. 13.

There now are a record 15 Fortune 500 companies with a female CEO, seven of them megacorporations in the largest 100 as measured by annual revenue.

Women CEOs of giant firms remain too small a sample size to draw any conclusions, and it would be a stretch to attribute the 2009 outperformance to gender, says Susan Cabrera, whose study of gender, leadership and team performance was in the December issue of Psychology of Women Quarterly.

“Having said that, research shows that women on average tend to be more risk-averse,” Cabrera says, which would give them an advantage in times when it’s best to reduce debt, cut costs and conserve cash. There may be a backlash against male CEOs who “swung for the fences and got clobbered,” she says.

Women who reach the top also have to be more exceptional than the average CEO, Cabrera says, which should show up in performance. EBay CEO John Donahoe, who replaced Meg Whitman in 2008, agrees that female executives are exceptional. But he was at eBay during Whitman’s final three years, when eBay cracked the Fortune 500 and rose to No. 326, and he says she was anything but risk-averse.

Xerox, the 147th-largest company by revenue, became the first to transition from one female CEO to another when Ursula Burns, the first female African-American CEO in the Fortune 500, followed Anne Mulcahy on July 1. Burns is the 44th woman to make it to CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

Xerox stock was up 8 percent in 2009 under the combination of Burns, 51, and Mulcahy, 57. That makes it one of the 12 companies led by a woman for the full year that enjoyed a stock rise in 2009.

Burns is a native New Yorker who grew up in a public housing project. A math whiz, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and joined Xerox in 1980 as a summer intern.

She took the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, made herself pure and fit for divine communication. Later in her life, as Mother Teresa, she regarded her life and works as an expression of God’s love on earth. In this year, she started her special mission; she left the convent to seek the poor. She attracted 12 followers who were very devoted to her cause. They sought the most miserable of society and lived with them. Early in the existence of their order they endured abuse and humiliation but they persevered. In 1950, the Vatican established the Missionaries of Charity and Sister Teresa became Mother Teresa. Unlike other missionary orders, they took and additional vow- a life of dedication to the care of the poor and the needy.

In 1952, the House for the Dying was opened, caring for the helpless and guiding them to die in dignity. In 1957, they started to work with the outcast of society-the lepers. Wherever there was a calamity, missionaries from her order were present, giving moral support and helping raise funds for the people in distress. Mother Teresa’s strong dedication has won her many admirers and supporters worldwide. By her selfless example she has proven that despite economic issues that divide people, human beings are the same-they share the same pain and sorrow. Her work has transcended national and religious boundaries.

She has won the support of world leaders and other benefactors form different backgrounds, hence, she did not have to worry about the source of funding for her projects. In 1985, then US President Ronald Reagan honored her with the Medal of Freedom. In 1996 a poll was made and she was voted second to Princess Diana as the World’s Most Caring Individuals.

We are all busy and there is often a lot to be communicated in a family. It’s really important for everyone to have a say and be listened to. Equal amount of airtime can makes a huge difference too.
In our family, the after school, evening mealtime is the first time the four of us came together in the day. This means that we all have things to tell each other or ask and, in the past, it often resulted in everyone interrupting and bitty, unfinished conversations.  After eating we’d clear up and put away (our children have always been involved with this) and we’d all leave the kitchen. I often felt frustrated or fed-up at being interrupted and unheard. Most nights I also felt exhausted.
So my partner and I decided to make a few subtle changes. Rather than something that we just wanted to get done and out of the way we made our dinner a more social experience. We asked them to lay the table, including glasses and a water jug and we decided to serve the food at the table. To encourage a decent conversation we each wrote on a small piece of paper something that we wanted to talk about over dinner. The paper was folded and placed in a bowl.
Then one by one we pulled out a note and had a conversation about it. We decided we’d go around the table twice to see what everyone thought or felt about the subject then drew the next one out. It worked wonderfully, having everyone focused on one topic at a time. We had a lovely time. Everyone engaged and felt listened too.
An amazing unexpected benefit also occurred. We found that at the end of clearing up everyone was in less of a rush to get away. We felt like we  had a enjoyable social experience as a family and were all really contented.  Having the children be involved with things that are happening in the home is a great benefit. If you want to have your children be more involved than they have been be sure to make any changes subtly and gently.  Let them know it’s going to happen in advance and avoid dumping things on them last minute and show respect, by making them feel part of the process when you can, by discussing changes with them before they happen – if they are old enough.

Early Life:

When Martha was sixteen years old, she begged her father to take her to a dance performance in Los Angeles, which he did. The dance performance made such an impression on her that she decided to devote her life to dance, much to the dismay of her parents. She was told that a career in the arts was simply not suited for the daughter of a prominent Presbyterian physician. Martha enrolled at Denishawn School, a dance school and performing troupe. At age 22, extremely late for an aspiring dancer, Martha had found her destiny. She was told, however, that she was far too old to begin dancing and that her body was not properly build for it. But Martha persevered, proving to be a quick learner. She worked very hard, paying much attention to detail, to train her body.

Martha danced with Denishawn for seven years, then moved to New York City. She launched her own company in 1929. Nothing stood in the way of her mission: to “chart the graph of the heart” through movement.

A New Language :
Through her choreography, Martha began to push the art of dance to new limits. Her early dances were not well-received by audiences, as they were confused by what they were seeing on stage. Her performances were powerful and modern, and were often based on strong, precise movements and pelvic contractions. Martha believed that by incorporating spastic movements and falls, she could express emotional and spiritual themes. Her choreography overflowed with beauty and emotion. Martha was establishing a new language of dance, one that would change everything that came after it.

Still dancing in the late 1960s, Martha often turned to alcohol to cope with her despair at her declining body. Her performances began to include more acting than dancing, relying on the movement of the dancers around her. Martha’s love of dance was so strong that she refused to leave the stage, even though critics insisted she was past her prime. However, when the critics became too loud, she left the stage. Despite her age, she kept dancing throughout the 60s. In 1969, Martha finally announced her retirement from the stage. Although she couldn’t perform, she continued to teach until her death in 1991, at age 96.
